I Hate Shilpa Shetty!!! February 13, 2007

I heard during the last 13 days of my stay in Ireland, that Galway <<the county in which i work>> is a place where people from all over Ireland and its neighbours come pubbing and to Dance. The nightclubs here,i was told, are full from thursday to monday early morning. So last Saturday, me and my friends from Nortel-Wipro set out  to discover the night scene in Galway at  a nightclub here.

The experience was…very educative i should say!!!

We had a fab night and came back home at 4 in the morning.

What struck me most was a certain incident. When i was walking to the nightclub, a young lady who walked past me,put on her best Irish accent and shouted,”I HATE SHILPA SHETTY!!”.I think it was my big chandelier earrings that provoked her.HOw do I respond  to something like that…I just turned back and said “So do I”.

“There are two Indias in this country

One India is straining at the leash, eager to spring forth and

live up to all the adjectives that the world has been showering recently upon us.

The other India is the leash.

One India says, give me a chance and I’ll prove myself.

The other India says,
prove yourself and maybe then you’ll have a chance.

One India lives in the optimism of our hearts.

The other India lurks in the skepticism of your minds

One India wants. The other India hopes.

One India leads. The other India follows.

But conversions are on the rise. With each passing day more
and more people from the other
India have been coming over to this side.
And quietly, while the world is not looking, a pulsating, dynamic, new
India is emerging.

An India whose faith in success is far greater than its fear in failure.
An India that no longer boycotts foreign-made goods but buys out the
companies that make them instead.

History, they say, is a bad motorist. It rarely ever signals its intentions
when it is making a turn.

This is that rarely-ever moment. History is turning a page.

For more than half a century, our nation has

sprung, stumbled, run. fallen, rolled over, got up, dusted herself and

 cantered, sometimes lurched on.
But today, as we begin out 60th year as a free nation, the ride has brought
us to the edge of time’s great precipice.

And one India- a tiny little voice at the back of the head- is looking down
at the bottom of the ravine and hesitating.

The other India is looking up at the sky and saying, it’s time to fly.

                                                                                -India Poised Anthem

Every now and then, people come up with some way or the other to remind us of the patriot asleep in us. It stays awake for a few months, weeks, days or hours and then, goes to sleep again. Awakens when we hear the National Anthem, The ‘Vande Matharam’, or ‘Saare Jahan Se Acha’, on Independence day and Republic Day. But, Is that all
India needs today?? Its time to ask ourselves how we can contribute to our country and make her stand proud on the international pedestal.

The Times of India, with this dream, have launched the six week long ‘India Poised‘campaign  christening 2007 as the ‘Year of India’. The TOI has brought to the public a critical assessment of India’s readiness for any serious claim to international fame by examining
India’s key sectors and open areas of public governance, infrastructure health, business, economy, environment, social sector and culture among others to sort the stars from the non performers.
As part of the campaign, Panel discussions, debates, walkathons, spirituality conventions, music contests, cuisine festivals and much more are being organized at all Major cities.

A one-and-a-half minute anthem that embodies the essence of the India Poised campaign, penned by Gulzar and put into music by Shankar Mahadevan is, in Gulzar’s words, “a message about poised India, an India raring to go, a new
India ready to march forward”.

Now is the time for Action beyond the Hype. Let us resolve to march forward!!

I am hurt.

“All Indians are dumb”, he said. It hurt the patriot in me.

“Don’t forget that includes you and me”, I said.

“I don’t care, Coz it’s true”, he said.

“Well, All Indians aren’t dumb, some just do some lousy work”, I said.

I don’t blame him. He was complaining about some bad road work that made his bike jump a couple of inches above the ground in the heart of Bangalore, just when we got off the road where some of India’s smartest and youngest minds spend almost 4 hours a day and make sure that they get serious back problems by the time they turn 40(thanks to the new elevated highway project and otherwise). For those of you who haven’t been to Bangalore, this is the part of Bangalore that you don’t see when you come here on a holiday. It’s called Hosur Road. This road takes you to the heart of India’s software Industry. On a normal working day, it takes me 1 hour to reach home. And thanks to the new shiny highway coming up, I takes me around 2 hours.

“If such a big project was going on in Delhi”, he says,” they would have made alternate roadways or other traffic arrangements before starting the work”.

I believe him…coz I have never been there and coz it makes me feel good to believe that this is not the case in my capital city.Im tired, disappointed, frustrated, yes…hurt…and above all….Im helpless.

12 Indians detained in Amsterdam.

Sorry, I mean 12 Indian “terrorists” detained in Amsterdam. Terrorists , who went abroad for a “garment exhibition”. I don’t understand. You detain them. You put their names on international television. You label them as terrorists. After a couple of hours you give them a clean chit. What happens to their reputation? Whats happening here?? Why is everyone being so paranoid? Netherlands and France have announced that there will be special security check for Muslim Passengers. I pity Shah Rukh Khan or as a matter of fact the entire Bollywood Khan gang, I pity Salman Rushdie, I pity Abdul Kalam….and yes I pity the entire Pakistan Cricket team. Dont dream of seeing the Eiffel tower unless you are ready to spend 2 days at the airport and yea…I think you better take the Cote d’Azure (French Riviera) off your holiday destination list. Now this isn’t a problem faced by muslims alone, its faced by every Indian (and people from its neighbours) traveling into the terrified West.Trust me, The fear will get you, even if the terrorists don’t. Im sorry to have to say this…but its coz im hurt.

People above 60 shouldn’t be able to represent different parts of our country at the Parliament.

They should have a University degree to their credit.

They shouldn’t have a criminal case to their credit.

These are some points we could start on.

I don’t know about all of you, but, I am ashamed. I am sure all those who watched what happened in the parliament today on TV feel the same. Two parliamentarians , fighting and calling each other names,in the parliament, when the whole Nation is watching. When they should be discussing how to feed the hungry and house the homeless. When they should be thinking about what to do about the innocent people detained in Amsterdam. When they should be discussing how to Glorify the Real India….I am hurt.

Youth for Equality, I think you should stop having organizing human chains and protest marches against reservation and other issues. What is the use when there is no one to listen. When the worlds biggest democratic country, ceases to be democratic. Lets go talk to the wall instead.

I think its time for the Indian Revolution.

Im Hurt.
